A Luxury Westin Buffalo Wedding Weekend: Shaheen & Adam

As a Buffalo documentary wedding photographer, there is nothing quite like capturing a full weekend of celebrations. When a couple invites their closest family and friends to take over the city for multiple days, it allows the story of their wedding to unfold naturally, building anticipation and raw emotion at every step.

Shaheen and Adam’s wedding weekend was an absolute masterclass in modern luxury and authentic celebration. As a gay business owner, working with an incredible same-sex couple like Shaheen and Adam to document their love story across some of Buffalo’s most iconic venues is exactly why I do this job. They planned a sophisticated, multi-location event that perfectly balanced high-end style with a relaxed, party-focused energy.

Kicking it off: The Welcome Party at The Terrace
The weekend began with a vibrant welcome party at The Terrace at Delaware Park. Overlooking Hoyt Lake, this was the perfect, relaxed environment for Shaheen and Adam to greet their out-of-town guests. Treating the welcome party with a documentary approach allows me to capture all those initial hugs, laughs, and candid reunions, meaning by the time the actual wedding day arrives, the guests are already completely comfortable around my camera.

Wedding Day: Getting Ready at The Westin Buffalo
The morning of a wedding sets the emotional tone for the entire day, and Shaheen and Adam chose to do something incredibly special: they got ready together, completely privately. Foregoing the traditional, often chaotic morning surrounded by a large wedding party, they opted for a quiet, intimate start in their suite at The Westin Buffalo.

The Photographer’s Take: The Power of a Private Morning
As a documentary photographer, I absolutely love when couples choose to get ready together. It shifts the energy of the morning from stressful to deeply intentional. Capturing them helping each other with their ties and adjusting their lapels allowed for incredibly raw, authentic moments before the rush of the celebration began. From a technical perspective, the suites at The Westin feature gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows. I used that clean, directional natural light to photograph these quiet interactions with a high-end, editorial finish, perfectly highlighting the calm intimacy of their morning.

Editorial Portraits: The AKG & The Richardson Campus
For their wedding day portraits, Shaheen and Adam chose two of the most visually striking locations in Western New York: the newly renovated Buffalo AKG Art Museum and the historic Richardson Olmsted Campus.

The Photographer’s Take: Blending Modern and Historic Architecture
From a technical and editorial perspective, pairing these two locations is brilliant. We started at the AKG, utilizing the clean, sweeping lines of the white marble columns for a modern, high-fashion aesthetic. Then, we moved over to the Richardson. The dramatic, towering Medina sandstone and the historic archways provided a rich, moody contrast. Taking the time to explore both locations gave their portrait gallery an incredible depth and a true editorial, magazine-quality finish.

Ceremony & Reception: The Westin Buffalo
After portraits, we headed to The Westin Buffalo in the heart of downtown for their ceremony and reception. The Westin offers a sleek, modern atmosphere with gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that let in incredible natural light for their vows.

Once the “I dos” were said, the space completely transformed into an epic, high-energy reception. Because we had already captured their stunning portraits earlier in the day, Shaheen and Adam were able to be fully present for their party. They spent the entire night exactly where they belonged: on the dance floor, surrounded by their favorite people, while I documented every unscripted, joyful moments.
