Last fall, I had the absolute pleasure of doing exactly that for Henri Star, a brilliant musician and the visionary owner of the Muhammad School of Music here in Buffalo, NY.
Capturing the Soul of a Music Studio
Located right in the heart of downtown Buffalo, Henri’s studio is a warm, inspiring space where students come to deepen their connection with classical music. When I arrived for his branding session, it was immediately clear that his passion for music education and community empowerment extended to every corner of the room.
The studio is meticulously curated, filled with both elegance and creative energy – a true reflection of Henri’s personal presence and the overarching mission of his school.
The Photographer’s Take: An Editorial Approach to Branding
For a creative professional like Henri, a traditional, stiff headshot simply wouldn’t do his brand justice. My approach was to treat his session like an editorial documentary assignment. Instead of forcing awkward poses, I wanted to document him interacting with his space and his instruments. By utilizing the natural light filtering into the studio and focusing on the rich, warm tones of the room, we created a gallery of images that feel sophisticated, inviting, and deeply authentic.
It was an honor to document such an important, influential figure in Buffalo’s music scene and to help visually tell the story of a local business that is making a real, lasting impact on our community.
